Why Replacing Tyres is Important

Driving on tyres that don’t meet the legal tread depth can result in failing your MOT and may incur fines up to £2,500, along with up to 3 penalty points per tyre.
In the UK, the minimum legal tread depth is 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre. If the tread falls below this, your tyres are no longer roadworthy.
A simple way to check your tyre tread is with a 20p coin. Insert the coin into the grooves of your tyre: if the outer band of the coin is visible, the tread is below the legal limit and the tyre needs replacing.
